Motorcyclist killed in Wheaton crash: officials
A motorcyclist was killed in a Wheaton crash at Butterfield and Herrick roads Wednesday, officials said. The road has since reopened.

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) -- A motorcyclist died Wednesday after a west suburban crash, Wheaton officials said.

The fatal crash, which took place about 10:05 a.m. at the intersection of Butterfield and Herrick roads, involved the motorcycle and a minivan, officials said.

Officials did not immediately provide information about what led up to the crash.

The 22-year-old man riding the motorcycle was taken to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital, where he died, officials said.

The driver of the minivan, an 84-year-old woman and sole occupant of the vehicle, was taken to Northwestern Medicine Central DuPage Hospital as a precaution.

Part of Butterfield Road was closed for about four and a half hours, while police investigated.

"We extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, and community members impacted by this tragic crash," officials said.

Chopper 7 was over the scene about 11 a.m. A badly damaged motorcycle could be seen, as well as a minivan with apparent passenger-side damage.
