CHICAGO (WLS) -- A teenager was injured after a shooting near Chicago's 31st Street Beach, according to police.
Chicago police investigators said some sort of fight allegedly broke out involving multiple people at about 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
It is unclear what the fight was over and how many people were involved.
A 17-year-old boy was shot once in the abdomen. He was rushed to an area hospital in critical condition.
Chicago police said nobody was in custody.
The shooting comes after city officials established a temporary curfew at 31st Street Beach last summer following a series of violent and deadly incidents.
Officials made the choice to close the beach two hours early at 9 p.m. after three people were killed and others injured in separate shootings.
"Obviously, every shooting is one too many. This is the time of year when we tend to see violence spike," Chicago CRED Senior Advisor Peter Cunningham said.
Cunningham said Chicago CRED is working to mediate violence by increasing programming for young people.
"When young people see someone like themselves who understands their world and has been through it as many of the folks are who have been through it," Cunningham said. "They talk with them, walk with them, connect with them."
4th Ward Alderman Lamont Robinson said his office is working to implement safety measures at the beach to keep people safe.
He said his office is also working with CPD as the investigation continues.
